1/4-18 NPT High Speed Steel Taper Pipe fitting Tap
Also known as pipe taps, high-speed steel NPT pipe taps serve the purpose of creating new threads or restoring/correcting damaged or stuck pipe threads. These taps are suitable for threading various materials, including both ferrous and non-ferrous ones.
It’s important to note that the nominal size of a Pipe Tap corresponds to the size of the pipe fitting to be tapped, not the actual size of the tap itself. The thread of the tap tapers at a rate of 3/4 of an inch per foot. Additionally, all Pipe Taps are equipped with a 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 thread chamfer.
When dealing with NPT threads, it’s necessary to apply a sealer such as Teflon tape or pipe compound to ensure a secure and leak-free connection.
